Laptop chain marketing firm raided

Such a business not permissible under law, say the police

HYDERABAD: Task force officials raided a private firm allegedly involved in chain marketing of laptops in West Marredpally and arrested a person after seizing two laptops.

A police press release claimed that the arrested man V. Surya Narayana was operating a chain marketing system where membership is awarded after payment of Rs 14,000.

The member has to enrol three more persons and after payment of Rs 14,000 each, a Lenovo laptop worth Rs 32,000 is given.

The fresh members would get their laptops once they enrol three more members each.

Police said such chain marketing was not permissible under sections 4 and 5 of Prize chits and Money circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978.

The arrested person and seized computers were handed over to the Marredpally police for further investigation.
