REALITY CHECK: TDP legislators interacting with farmers at the marketyard in Nizamabad on Thursday.

NIZAMABAD: Telugu Desam Party deputy floor leader in the Assembly Kala Venkat Rao has said turmeric farmers are incurring loss in crores of rupees due to absence of Minimum Support Price for their produce in the district.

Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's irresponsible statement on the issue when the serious debate was on in the Assembly indicated his Government's attitude towards farming community, he said while addressing a press conference, here on Thursday evening.

A five-member TDP legislators' team comprising Mr. Venkat Rao, D. Narendra Kumar, Babu Ramesh, Narender Reddy and Jogulu arrived here to ascertain the woes of the turmeric farmers. They visited agriculture marketyard and interacted with farmers and marketyard officials.

"We will not give up and agitate till the farmers get remunerative price," Mr. Venkat Rao said.

Mr. Narendra Kumar said: "We expected a positive response from Government on the issue . However, our hopes were belied as Dr. Reddy did not come out with any statement even after a debate in the Assembly."
