Rail traffic disrupted for five hours

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: Rail traffic along the Thiruvananthapuram-Nagercoil section was disrupted for over five-and-a-half-hours following damage to 10 metre of railhead near Balaramapuram tunnel on Thursday around 5.35 p.m.

The damage occurred after the wheels of a goods train got stuck in the single lane section around 12 noon. Railway sources said the railhead, for nearly 10 metres, was damaged in the heat that was generated after the wheels got stuck.

The goods train that was proceeding from Tirunelveli later reached Thiruvananthapuram central.
