Two arrested on charges of cheating

Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: The State police have arrested two persons on charges of defrauding large amounts of money from nearly 25 persons, including a city-based businessman.

The police identified the accused as Hari, 33, and Prakash, 40. The police arrested them at Palluruthy in Kochi on the direction of Inspector General of Police (South Zone) Arun Kumar Sinha.

According to A. Lalji, Circle Inspector (CI), the accused had placed an advertisement in a regional daily promising large amount of money as `instant loan' for businessmen. The only condition was that they should be paid 5 per cent of the loan amount as `processing charge' in advance. Pradeep Kumar, a city based businessman, was among those cheated. The racket was brought to the notice of Mr. Sinha by the former city Mayor, V. Sivankutty. Policemen posing as potential clients lured the suspects to Kochi and arrested them at Palluruthy.
