Bangalore: Carnatica, in association with Alamelamma Patel Narayan Iyengar Trust and Ananya Cultural Association, has organised a three-day music festival in honour of the saint-composer Thyagaraja. Speaking to presspersons here on Thursday, K.N. Shashikiran, musician and director of Carnatica, said that the music festival, co-sponsored by WorldSpace, would be a free event. The pattern of the festival would be similar to the one conducted at Tiruvaiyyaru in Thanjavur district. "We want to conduct the festival every year. On the occasion, we plan to release a CD set that will feature legends and upcoming artistes," he said. The CD set will be priced at Rs. 600 while individual CDs will be sold at Rs. 150. The proceeds from the sale would go towards the Alamelamma Patel Narayana Iyengar Trust, Sri Bhargava Rama Patashala at Hiremagalur. The music festival, which begins on March 9, will be inaugurated by Minister for Medium and Large Scale Industries Katta Subramanya Naidu at the Bangalore Gayana Samaja. The concerts will take place between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the first day. Concerts on the second and third days of the festival will be conducted at Seva Sadan, Malleswaram, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mahadevan of WorldSpace said, "We, at WorldSpace, have been trying to take on-ground events on air. With this association, our listeners can expect more on-ground event coverage."
