Fine for dumping waste

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Thursday imposed a penalty of Rs. 5 lakh on Toyota Bhoshuku Automative India Pvt. Ltd. for dumping six lorry loads of leather waste, sponge and other effluents on the banks of Vrishabhavathi Valley on Mysore Road here.

According to BBMP's Rajajeshwarinagar Zone Joint Commissioner V. Yeshwanth, the managing director of the company has been asked to pay the fine within seven days.

The violation that was noticed during an inspection, would not only hinder the smooth flow of sewage water in the valley but also pollute the environment, Mr. Yeshwanth told The Hindu.

Notice

"We have also informed the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board about the issue. We got the waste removed from there before imposing the penalty.

"We have also issued a notice to the company. Such violations will be dealt with strictly henceforth," he added.
