DHARWAD: Belgaum Regional Commissioner Amita Prasad has directed tahsildars, executive officers and assistant executive officers of taluk panchayats to hold joint weekly meetings to review the situation in drought-affected villages. Chairing a review meeting of the drought-related works here on Friday, she asked the officials to compulsorily review the progress of drinking water supply and infrastructure development schemes in the villages. Kundagol and Navalgund taluks in Dharwad district have been declared drought-affected by the Government. In the wake of possible scarcity of drinking water in the days to come, the officials should keep a constant watch on the situation by visiting the villages every week, she said. The Divisional Commissioner also reviewed the progress of the works taken up under flood-relief measures. She asked the officials to complete the works before the end of April. Giving information on the steps taken under drought-relief measures, Deputy Commissioner M.S. Srikar said Rs. 98.74 lakh and 406 tonnes of food grains were released for Navalgund taluk. A total of 64 drought relief works were implemented in the taluk, of which 42 had been completed and the total expenditure stood at Rs. 72 lakh, he said.
