Anup Sridhar in quarterfinals

CHENNAI: Anup Sridhar of India entered the singles quarterfinals of the Yonex German Open badminton championships on Thursday, defeating World No. 32 Kaspar Oedum (Denmark) 21-18, 21-19.

Earlier, Anand Pawar scored an upset-win over Sairul Amar Ayob of Malaysia in the first round. However, he lost in the next round to Yi Lu (China).

Others Indians — Chetan Anand, Nikhil Kanetkar and P. Kashyap — crashed out in the first round. In the women's section, Saina Nehwal lost to Juliane Schenk of Germany 16-21, 21-19, 21-19 in the first round.

In men's doubles, Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas reached the last eight, while the women's pair of Shruti Kurien and Jwala Gutta lost in the pre-quarterfinals.
