CHENNAI: Anup Sridhar of India entered the singles quarterfinals of the Yonex German Open badminton championships on Thursday, defeating World No. 32 Kaspar Oedum (Denmark) 21-18, 21-19.
Earlier, Anand Pawar scored an upset-win over Sairul Amar Ayob of Malaysia in the first round. However, he lost in the next round to Yi Lu (China). Others Indians Chetan Anand, Nikhil Kanetkar and P. Kashyap crashed out in the first round. In the women's section, Saina Nehwal lost to Juliane Schenk of Germany 16-21, 21-19, 21-19 in the first round. In men's doubles, Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas reached the last eight, while the women's pair of Shruti Kurien and Jwala Gutta lost in the pre-quarterfinals.
