DEADLY TWISTER: The Enterprise High School which was damaged after a tornado struck it on Thursday in Alabama, U.S.
New York: Severe storms and tornadoes ripped through central and southeastern United States, killing at least 21 persons, including eight in a high school in Alabama after the building collapsed on students and teachers due to the onslaught. The storm killed nine persons in Georgia, 10 in Alabama and a seven-year-old girl in Missouri, CNN reported on Friday. In Alabama, a tornado on Thursday afternoon killed 10 persons, eight of them taking shelter at Enterprise High School, officials said. ``The whole building just collapsed on everybody,'' a student of the school was quoted as saying by the media. Television channels showed images of overturned cars, collapsed buildings, fallen trees and rescue workers searching through the wreckage. Flood and severe thunderstorm warnings were flashed in New York and neighbouring states as the system moved north. The twister also slammed into a hospital in Georgia, leading to evacuation of all patients. PTI
