VISAKHAPATNAM: Floral tributes were paid to the bodies of Lance Naiks S.P.R. Varahakala Raju and Lakshman Rao of 2 Engineering Regiment when they were brought to Visakhapatnam by air from Jammu via New Delhi on Friday. Both of them succumbed to the bullet wounds they sustained following attack by terrorists during a search operation in Jammu on February 25.
Solemn drill
While Raju was a resident of Pollaki village in Srikakulam district, Rao was a native of Radhakrishnapuram in Chittlavalasa. A naval contingent performed solemn drill - shok shastra - sounded last post and observed two minutes silence in memory of the duo. Wreaths were also laid on the bodies on behalf of senior Army and Navy officers. Later, the bodies were handed over to their relatives.
