"The Communal Violence (Prevention, Control and Rehabilitation of Victims) Bill" provides for speedy investigation, imposition of enhancement punishment for those involved in communal violence and provision of adequate rehabilitation and relief facilities for the victims. The Bill, among other things, provides for creating institutional arrangements to meet the objective and envisages the empowerment of Central and State authorities in discharging their duties effectively. Announcing the decision, Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Cabinet spokesperson Priyaranjan Dasmunsi said the legislation would be introduced in the Rajya Sabha and efforts would be taken to ensure that both Houses passed it in the current session.
