Tirupati gets corporation status

TIRUPATI: Overcoming all the legal and political hurdles, the temple town of Tirupati has at last been elevated as a Municipal Corporation.

As per the order received by the municipal authorities on Friday, the Government has found the area covered under the present municipality as sufficient to be recognised as a larger urban area and hence has elevated it to the status of a corporation vide G.O.Ms.No.128, dated 2/3/2007. Similarly, the municipality was abolished vide the G.O.Ms.No.127 of the same date.

The district Collector has been named the Special Officer of the Municipal Corporation. The resolution made by the municipal council way back in 2004 against the upgradation was duly cancelled, while the resolution made in November 2006 accepting the upgradation was approved.
