Ibobi Singh sworn in Manipur Chief Minister

Ministry to be expanded after Holi, he says

NEW TERM: Okram Ibobi Singh being administered the oath of office as Chief Minister by Governor S.S. Sidhu at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Friday.

Imphal: Senior Congress leader O. Ibobi Singh, who has the distinction of being Manipur's first Chief Minister to complete a full term in office, was on Friday sworn in to hold the top post for a second consecutive term.

Governor S.S. Sidhu administered the oath of office and secrecy to him.

Soon after, Mr. Singh told the media that he would expand his Ministry after Holi.

He said he had the support of the CPI, which was a constituent of the previous Secular Progressive Front (SPF) Ministry he headed, and the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

The SPF has a strength of 37 (Congress 30, CPI 4 and RJD 3) in the 60-member Assembly.

The newly elected MLAs, party presidents, Union Minister of State Oscar Fernandes and high civil and police officials attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Peace, development

Mr. Singh said his Government would work for peace and development in the State.

After the Congress emerged the single largest party in the Manipur Assembly, Mr. Singh was elected the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader.

RJD, CPI floor leaders

Helaludin Khan was elected leader of the RJD Legislature Party and Parijat Singh, leader of the CPI Legislature Party. — Agencies.
