GUNTUR : Guntur Municipal Corporation is likely to present its annual budget for 2007-08 on March 5 with an estimated outlay of Rs.120 crore. The estimates are being downsized from original layout of Rs.149 crores to make it realistic. The Annual Budget presentation has already got delayed, but with focus on road widening and solid waste management, the budget would be presented to the council, the Municipal Commissioner D. Rama Rao said on Thursday. Vijayawada Guntur Tenali Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTM-UDA) on Thursday categorically refused to make any monetary payment for the lands that would be lost as part of the widening and laying of new road connecting Auto Nagar with Amaravathi Road to create an alternative approach from the city to National Highway No.5. During a public hearing at Gorantla on the city outskirts, VGTM-UDA chairman Malladi Vishnu and secretary Prasad told people gathered there that it could get higher Floor Space Index for construction of buildings along this 1.7 k.m. road but were not in a position to pay any compensation.
