Woman kidnapped as husband looks on

Staff Reporter

Role of `ex-husband' suspected

HYDERABAD: A woman Soni Bai (23) was kidnapped by a gang right in front of her husband Ashok's eyes at Swamy Narayana temple at Chilkur on Friday.

Before getting married to Ashok on January 28 last, the kidnapped woman reportedly wed one Pappu against wishes of members of her family, the police said.

It is suspected that Pappu and his friends are behind the kidnapping.

"Ashok maintains that the strangers pushed him aside, dragged his wife, made her sit on a motorbike and sped away," Moinabad police station Sub-Inspector K.V. Subba Rao said.

A kidnap case was registered.

Soni reportedly fell in love with Pappu and they came to the city on January 10 last and got married at Registrar's office.

Meanwhile, members of Soni's family took her back to their house, convincing Pappu that they would perform the marriage again.

"We don't know what transpired among family members but three weeks later they married Soni to her maternal uncle Ashok," the SI said.
