Bangalore: A national conference on cyber security will be held on March 9 and 10 in the city, jointly organised by International Telecommunication Union-Asia Pacific Telecommunity Foundation of India, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Software Technology Parks of India, Computer Society of India and Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University. Rao Kasarbada, Chairman of United Telecom Ltd., told presspersons that the public sector undertaking (PSUs) specialising in encryption systems for armed forces, IT companies, educational institutions would meet and ponder on issues surrounding cyber security. The conference, to be held at Hotel Atria, had been organised with an objective of creating awareness and educating people on cyber security. Dr. Kasarbada said that because of the revolution in connectivity, privacy of individuals had become threatened. "Everyday, we hear of cloning in GSM or CDMA networks, ATM card fraud, DOS attacks, viruses, websites being demolished and so on. Continuous awareness is needed to circumvent these problems." There was a need to educate people on the precautions and remedies, research and development on virus detection tools, side channel attacks, security policy implementation, cyber laws to punish cyber criminals, chip design to facilitate fast algorithm implementations, securing ad hoc wireless networks, and steganographic system. A panel discussion on "Is India well prepared for cyber security?" would be held on March 9 in which experts on cyber security and related laws and policies would participate, said Iqbal Ahmed, co-chair, organising committee, CSI. He said that pre-conference tutorials would be held on March 8 at the Amrita Institute of Technology to prepare the participants to understand and appreciate the topics that would be discussed in seven sessions of the conference.
