GREETINGS FROM THE CHIEF: BJP president Rajnath Singh with Chief Minister-designate of Uttarakhand B.C. Khanduri in New Delhi on Saturday. Mr. Khanduri will take oath on March 8.

DEHRA DUN: Three members of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal and two Independents gave their letters of support for the Bharatiya Janata Party to form the next Government in Uttarakhand, to the Governor, Sudarshan Aggarwal, on Saturday.

With this, the effective strength of the BJP, having 34 members, goes up to a safe 39 in the House of 70.

The new Government headed by Maj. Gen. (retd.) Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri will be sworn in on March eight, the party spokesman, Devendra Bhasin said.

All the five MLAs were escorted to the Raj Bhavan by the former Chief Minister and State BJP president, Bhagat Singh Koshiary and former Finance Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

The UKD which was earlier keen to lend support only if its nine-point charter was accepted seems to have softened after it saw the Independents lending support to the BJP.

Welcoming the support, Mr. Khanduri said his would be a Government of the masses that would try to create an atmosphere of enterprise and innovations aimed at economic uplift at all levels.
