Dharna for development of libraries in twin cities

Staff Correspondent

HUBLI: Members of Yuva Samata Sena staged a dharna in Dharwad on Friday demanding that the public libraries in the twin cities be developed.

The members of the sena led by its State unit president Gurunath Ullikashi submitted a memorandum addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, who is the administrator of the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation. The members alleged that the officials of the Department of Public Libraries had done nothing to improve the libraries despite submitting several memoranda to them. The only reply given by the officials was that the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation was yet to pay them Rs. 6 crore towards the library tax collected by it.

Manjunath Ajagonda, Shabbir Betageri, Shailaja Hotkar, and Basavaraj Nevanur were among the members of the sena who participated in the dharna.

The members submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner urging him to initiate steps to prevent irregularities in the allotment of Lidkar outlets.
