NEW DELHI: A festival of music was organised at Ambedkar Auditorium in Andhra Pradesh Bhavan here on Saturday to celebrate the second anniversary of Carnatica-Delhi Chapter.

The highlight of the festival was Sangeetha Upanyasam by Hari Katha exponent and Sangeet Natak Akademi award winner Kalyanapuram Sri Aravamudan. The festival also saw the launch of Carnatica Global Gurukulam in New Delhi in association with Bhatkande Sangeet Vidyalaya.

In his welcome address earlier, Additional Solicitor-General of India and Chairman of the Carnatica Archival Centre Mohan Parasaran eulogised Sri Aravamudan for his immense contribution to popularising the Hari Katha among the younger generation.

"Hari Katha was a prominent art a few decades back. Now interest in this art has started growing. Sri Aravamudan left a leading technology firm to fully dedicate himself to the art of Hari Katha. The Sangeet Natak Akademi recognised Harikatha this year and the choice fell on Sri Aravamudan. He has been training students in this art. So now it will not be a dying art," said Mr. Parasaran.

Besides the release of a thematic CD on Lord Rama titled "Rama Vaibhavam", the music function also saw Carnatica Brothers K.N. Shashikiran and Chitravina Sri P. Ganesh -- world record holders for marathon duo singing -- perform a Carnatic vocal concert.

A Chennai-based organisation, Carnatica is run by renowned vocalists S. Sowmya and K.N. Shashikiran who conceptualised the world's first ever CD-ROM on Carnatic music titled "Nadanubhava".

This CD-ROM signifies a major breakthrough in the world of Carnatic music.

The origin of Carnatic music, traditional aspects, basic components like rhythm, melody and musical expressions and the comparative study of various music systems have been presented therein in a user-friendly format.

Encyclopaedia

The founders of Carnatica aspire to create an encyclopaedia of music to make people understand and appreciate the musical genres and nuances without diluting the traditional music in any way.

However, their ultimate dream is to create a culture court that will offer anything to do with Carnatic music.
