Alappuzha: An innovative speedy file-clearing programme was launched at the Alappuzha Collectorate on Saturday. A total of 252 files pertaining to the Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund and 256 files regarding Revenue Recovery were taken up at the programme. District Collector K.R. Viswambharan sanctioned Rs.1,000 each to 78 petitioners under the CMDRF and 57 cases were rejected. The Collector recommended 117 cases to the Government for sanction of relief. Four cases of revenue recovery were closed and the rest were referred to Tahsildars and other officials for further action. The Collector told The Hindu that files that would have taken 15 days for a decision on a normal course were disposed within five minutes each. Select staff drawn from the Revenue section and the general section participated in today's mass file-clearing programme. They were helped by the officials from the financial section and the establishment section. Saturday was chosen for the mass clearing since the number of visitors to the Collectorate is minimum on Saturdays. He wants to make it a monthly exercise and hoped that within one year, a large number of pending files at the Collectorate could be disposed of.
