Chief Minister should quit, says Raghavan

Staff Reporter

Says Left Democratic Front has done nothing for farmers

KOTTAYAM: Communist Marxist Party general secretary M.V. Raghavan has said that the Chief Minister, who had reportedly taken a dissenting stance on the loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Project, should step down. It is understandable if a member of the Cabinet expressed his dissenting opinion. "But to say that the team leader himself had taken a dissenting stance means he had lost his confidence in the team," Mr. Raghavan has said.

He was inaugurating the fifth State conference of Kerala Karshaka Federation here on Saturday.

He alleged that the Left Democratic Front Government had done nothing for farmers and the Debt Relief Commission being set up would not be effective to take care of their interests.

This would be yet another commission manned by bureaucrats and would only help to burden the exchequer, he alleged.

The conference will continue on Sunday.
