Kamesh Srinivasan

CHANDIGARH: Goalkeeper Kamaldeep Singh came up with a spectacular save to deny Birender Lakra in the extended `sudden death' phase to help Sher-e-Jalandhar beat Orissa Steelers 6-5 in the tie-break after the teams had locked 1-1 at the end of regulation period and extra-time in the first final of the PHL at the Sector 42 Stadium here on Friday.

The best of players from both the sides couldn't beat the goalkeeper in the novel tie-break.

Tejbir Singh converted twice, while Gagan Ajit Singh, Prabhdeep Singh, Yudhvir Singh and Gurvinder Singh were the others to succeed in the tie-break for the winner.

Dilip Tirkey (2), William Xalxo (2) and Prabodh Tirkey were successful for the loser in the tie-break.

Earlier, Gagan Ajit Singh scored in the second minute of the third quarter before Sunil Ekka found the equaliser for the Steelers.
