Bail for students

ANANTAPUR: All the 16 student unions leaders who were arrested by the police on February 23 on charges of attempted rape and attempted murder, were granted bail by the First Additional District Court Judge V. Chandrasekharan.

The leaders had ransacked furniture of a private nursing college here in protest against suicide of a student due to alleged ragging. — Staff Reporter

AIYF State meet

ANANTAPUR: The 18th State convention of All India Youth Federation (AIYF) will be held at Khammam from March 22 to 24.

Safety Day prizes

HYDERABAD: Prizes to the winners of essay writing, slogan writing and poster painting competitions organised on January 28 to mark the 36th National Safety Day will be presented on March 4 at Indira Priyadarshini auditorium here. HYDERABAD: The 65th `Dak Adalat' to hear public complaints and grievances relating to postal services will be held in the office of Chief Postmaster-General, Andhra Pradesh Circle, here, at 11 a. m. on March 21. HYDERABAD: Dravidian University has published a translated version of poet Vemana's verses in Tulu. The translation has been done by B. S. Shivakumar, a Tulu scholar, who is the coordinator of the Centre for Tulu studies in the university. - Special Correspondent

Case against Telugu Desam Party leader

KURNOOL: The Three Town police registered a case against a TDP leader on the charges of misbehaving with a woman. According to reports, he misbehaved with a housewife who came to the city to see her sister. The woman encountered the leader while calling from a public telephone booth. - Special Correspondent

Train detained

KURNOOL: Activists of CPI(M) led by party district secretary T. Shadrak and MLA M.A. Gafoor detained the Kacheguda-Guntur passenger train here on Saturday to protest against non-introduction of inter-city express between Kurnool and Hyderabad in the Railway Budget. - Special Correspondent

Goods train derails

KURNOOL: A goods train derailed at Tungabhadra station near Mantralayam in Kurnool district on Saturday. Two wagons of an oil rake derailed. Movement of trains on the Guntakal-Raichur section was delayed for three hours till mid-day. - Special Correspondent

Minister falls sick

KURNOOL: Minister for Tourism J. Geeta Reddy fell sick on Saturday. Ms. Reddy who was to inaugurate the Tourism guesthouse at Ahobilam arrived here on Friday night. However, she fell sick and returned to Hyderabad cancelling her programme. - Special Correspondent

Bid to blast culvert

KHAMMAM: Maoists attempted to blast a culvert near Pusuguppa village in Charla mandal late on Friday night. Cement plaster on the culvert wall peeled off due to the impact of the blast. However, its main structure remained intact. The culvert connects Pusuguppa as well as other habitations in Charla with the tribal clusters in the neighbouring pockets of Bastar in Chhattisgarh. - Staff Reporter
