Now computer link for NDMC schools

Parents will be able to register their children for admission online

NEW DELHI: The Principals of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC)-run schools are all set to take a few lessons themselves. Stepping into the 21st Century finally, the NDMC has decided to install a computerised office system so that all the schools in its area get connected.

A big leap into the world of technology, once this system is put in place parents will be able to register their children in the NDMC neighbourhood school online.

"We have already floated the tender and hope that by the beginning of the next academic session all NDMC schools will be fitted with computers. This will make the whole process more transparent and much faster. From the next academic session parents will then be able to register their child for admission online,'' says Director Education Mamta Kochar.

The schools will now not only be able to receive all circulars through their computers but will also be able to keep comprehensive records on all their students. "This may not make the system paper-free, but it will certainly reduce the paperwork. The software for the project has been designed by the Directorate of Education under the Delhi Government,'' said an NDMC official.

While teachers in the NDMC schools have been given computer training, the Principals are now being brought into the technology loop. And with the NDMC planning to map the development of the children studying in its schools in a more holistic manner by saving medical records for ten years, this system will certainly help in retaining and storage of such data.

Maintaining hierarchy, the system will have different passwords so that only authorised personnel will be allowed to view certain sections. The design will also allow parents to log on and check the progress of their child. The system will also allow the schools to create a complete profile of their students. From health reports to classroom performance, this system will ensure that all the information is available at the click of a button.

"Once the system is put in place, the time taken in making decisions will be reduced", said the official.
