NEW DELHI: A 16-year-old mentally challenged boy, who had allegedly been kidnapped for ransom, has been rescued by the North East Delhi police from Nand Nagri here. Two labourers have been arrested in this connection. The police said Noor Mohammad and a fellow labourer Arif, both 18 years of age and residents of neighbouring Ghaziabad, had kidnapped Fateh Khan on Tuesday when he was on his way back home from school in Saboli Extension. According to the police, the two took the boy to Shaheed Nagar and kept him captive there in a room. Two days later, Fateh's father Nawab received an anonymous ransom call. He was directed by the caller to reach Apsara border with Rs.1 lakh in cash. Nawab reached the spot with the money but no one turned up. Subsequently he registered a case of kidnapping for ransom at the Nand Nagri police station. During investigations, the police found that Nawab's relative Noor Mohammad had been absconding from his house for the past 15 days. The needle of suspicion was firmly pointed towards him when the police discovered that he was working at Apsara border, from where the ransom call had been made. When the police put pressure on his family members, the two decided to release the boy near the Mandoli police post and escape. But they were subsequently arrested.
