Mughal Garden will be open tomorrow

NEW DELHI: The Mughal Garden at Rashtrapati Bhavan here will remain open to the public this Monday.

While the garden usually remains closed on Mondays for maintenance, it will be thrown open to visitors this Monday because of its being shut on Saturday and Sunday on account of Holi.

Entry to the garden will be from Gate 35 near North Avenue and the place will remain open from 10-30 a.m. to 4-30 p.m.

National Science Day celebrated

NEW DELHI: National Science Day was celebrated at Technology Bhavan here earlier this week. The chief guest was Union Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal, who dwelt on length on how science was vital for the development of the country and how efforts should be made to make it popular among the masses.

Awards were presented to several scientists who have contributed to science popularisation. Among the notable awardees was Rekha Agarwal, who has won this year's National Award for outstanding effort in science and technology communication through books and magazines.

Woman sentenced for possessing heroin

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Saturday sentenced a 42-year-old-woman to three years' imprisonment for possessing heroin. Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Neeraj Kumar Gupta held Rekha, a resident of Vishnu garden here, guilty of possessing 300 grams of heroin and slapped a fine of Rs. 10,000 on her. Acting on a tip-off, the Narcotics Branch of Delhi had laid a trap on January 7, 2006 and nabbed Rekha on the spot in East Delhi while she, along with her associates, was engaged in the business of selling heroin.
