MANGALORE: Sullia police have arrested three persons in connection with the acid attack on Venkappa Gowda, advocate and president of the Lawyers' Association of Sullia. According to a press release from B. Dayananda, Senior Superintendent of Police, here on Saturday, the accused are Narayana K.S., Usman and Santhosh Gowda. The police were on the lookout for another accused, he said. The police have traced the motorcycle used by the culprits. It was hired on the day of the incident from Narayana, a resident of Sampaje in Sullia taluk, the police said. Narayana reportedly confessed to the crime during interrogation and narrated the sequence of events and the motive behind the offence, Mr. Dayananda said. On his confession, the police arrested Usman of Sampaje and Santhosh of Delampady in Kasaragod district.
Former client
According to the police, Usman is a former client of Mr. Gowda in a civil dispute case. Usman withdrew his case from Mr. Gowda over some differences and assigned it to another lawyer, Mr. Dayananda said. He had reportedly developed animosity against Mr. Gowda and wanted to take revenge. Usman reportedly hatched a conspiracy with Narayana, his associate and worker, to attack and kill Mr. Gowda, Mr. Dayananda said.
