CB CID initiating steps to attach property of Yobu Saravanan

K.T. Sangameswaran

He has been detained under Goondas Act

CHENNAI: The Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CB CID) is taking steps to attach the property involved in the case of alleged cheating of building contractors by Yobu Saravanan.

Saravanan has been detained under the Goondas Act. The police are on the lookout for Ramanathan and Murugesan, trustees, Bhaskar of K.K. Nagar, who was running an export firm, and Mahesh and Srinivasan of Besant Nagar.

After the arrest of Saravanan, who started a trust in Vellore, and his friend Rajendran in December last year, documents pertaining to 175 acres of land were seized.

Interrogation of Saravanan led to the recovery of four cars, cash and jewellery.

Documents relating to 30 cents of land on East Coast Road and 4400 sq. ft. land at Vellore were also seized. Subsequently, more property was seized.

The allegation against Saravanan is that after telling the contractors that he intended to construct houses for the poor, free of cost, utilising foreign funds, he entered into an agreement with them and collected Rs. 2,000 as deposit for each house.
