Youth arrested for murder of girl child

Staff Reporter

Coimbatore: The Thudialur police on Saturday arrested V. Dileep Kumar (20) on charges of having murdered a two-and-a-half year old girl, Deepa.

Nagaraj, a snacks merchant of MGR Nagar in Kavundampalayam had filed a complaint stating that his daughter was missing from Thursday morning.

Even as the efforts were on to trace the girl, on Friday morning the residents in Kavundampalayam area noticed the girl lying dead near a drainage canal with strangulation marks on the neck.

A small gold ornament on her neck and silver anklets were missing.

The police suspected this to be a case of `murder for gain'. The neighbours provided some vital clues on who was last seen with the child.

Meanwhile, Dileep Kumar (a neighbour of Nagaraj) confessed to the crime and the police arrested him.

The accused was employed as a supplier in marriage halls and was unemployed for quite some time. Investigations are on.
