Bangalore: The Bangalore University is continuously striving to ensure quality in education and administration. It is in this regard that the Syndicate on Saturday took a decision to form an outsiders' peer committee, according to Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath.

Speaking to presspersons here, Prof. Ranganath said that the panel called Academic Administrative Audit Committee would interact with varsity officials, teachers and students of all the 48 departments and offer suggestions and recommendations. The committee members would also look into the report of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell.

Prof. Ranganath said that the committee's visit would depend on the schedule of its members.

The committee would be requested to complete the exercise by the end of the semester.

A three-member committee had also been formed to look into the expenditure incurred by the university for conducting examinations. The Vice-Chancellor said that with the passing of every semester, the expenditure incurred was increasing. "We need to work out a cost-benefit ratio. The committee will look into it and work out the details. We have spent Rs. 4 crore for examinations up to January this academic year," he said.

He said that if the results of the committee were positive, the profit would be used for development activities.

The Supreme Court recently passed a verdict regarding the regularisation of services of daily wage employees who have served continuously for 10 years. As many as 86 daily wage employees had been identified at the university. The Syndicate had decided to form a committeeto ensure that they have served for 10 years.
