Charities — how affected?

What are the changes proposed regarding charitable institutions?

Power of enquiry will be available to prescribed authority before approving exemption under Sec. 10(23C)(iv), (vi) or (via). In respect of application for registration made on or after June 1, 2007, it will be effective only from the year of registration. It would mean, that those charitable institutions, which have failed to get themselves registered for years for which they have income, will suffer tax.
