Krishnagiri : The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has requested the State Government to take steps to solve the acute drinking water scarcity in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts. Insufficient rainfall during the South West and North East monsoons has triggered a severe drinking water scarcity in the districts. The Government should immediately assess the groundwater level in tanks and other water bodies in the district and take up relief operations, said the CPI(M) district secretary, D. Ravindran, here on Sunday. Mr. Ravindran said that the State Government had marked about 186 acres to Dalits in 1976 to take up farming. But some persons in the village prevented them to do so. The land was still not been allotted to them. The Government must immediately allot it to Dalits. House site pattas should be distributed to families who had constructed huts on poromboke land. The Government should issue pattas on wasteland, which was being cultivated by farmers for successive generations. Pattas should be distributed to all eligible farmers in Hosur and Denkanikottai taluks exempting the Government Order issued by the then DMK Government in 1989. The Government had declared farmlands located on the fringes of forests as forestland. Since these farmlands were used by farmers till date the Government should alter the forest boundary. House site pattas should be distributed to more than 2,000 Dalit families in Uthangkarai taluk. The Union Government should initiate steps to lay a new railway track from Jolarpet in Vellore district to Hosur in Krishnagiri district to enable train movement between the two districts, he said.
