dated March 5, 1957: Election to Lok Sabha

The Congress Party on March 4 registered three big victories in the first contested returns to the Lok Sabha from Madras State when the party's candidates, Dr. P. Subbaroyan, Mr. C.R. Pattabhiraman and Mr. R. Ramanathan Chettiar were declared elected from Tiruchengode, Kumbakonam and Pudukottai Parliamentary constituencies respectively with a margin of over 60,000 votes each against their immediate rivals. Dr. Subbaroyan, who avenged his defeat in the same constituency in the last elections, polled now 86,935 votes as against 78,793 votes in 1952.
