KANNUR: The Kerala Chithra Kala Parishath district unit has urged the district panchayat to establish an art gallery here for painters in the district to hold exhibitions. In a representation to the panchayat, president of the unit Govindan Kannapuram and secretary K. Sasi Kumar said that in the absence of an art gallery, artists here had to pay high rents for halls for holding exhibitions. A gallery would not only draw tourists to the town but also conserve the art tradition of the district, they said. Noting that the district had produced many artists and sculptors, they said that many painters could not afford the rents.
