Puducherry
Special Correspondent
Puducherry: Sri Lankan Member of Parliament Mavai S. Senathirajah, who is also general secretary of Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi, said that the party had urged the international community, and more specifically India, to pressure Sri Lankan Government to protect Tamils. Addressing presspersons here on Sunday at the Press Club, Mr. Senathirajah said that a viable political solution should be found. And if this was not possible to tackle the ethnic problem, it was urged that there should be recognition of "our struggles for liberation from Sinhalese chauvinism". Mr. Senathirajah, who is also Deputy Leader of the Parliamentary Group of the Tamil National Alliance, referred to the sufferings of Tamils from the military action by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Around 50 Tamils were killed every month and instances of malnutrition had been surfacing among children.
Sufficient provisions
He appealed to India to send sufficient provisions to Tamil areas in Sri Lanka. He said that he would meet the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy later in the day and bring to his notice the sufferings of Tamils. He would also seek his good offices to persuade the Centre to pressure the Sri Lanka Government.
