Parodi (Kannada)
Director: Om SaiprakashCast: Upendra, Rangayana Raghu and Mansi Said to be a remake of Nana Patekar's decade-old blockbuster, Kranti Veer, Parodi succeeds in maintaining a safe distance from the audience right from its title to thematic content. At the outset, Parodi is an alien word to Kannada and its dialects. Some shades of the word can be found in Tulu, which is not in vogue. However, in the context of the film, Parodi means vagabond, man waiting for action and achiever. As the sense of the word is flexible, it would encourage audience to read ones own meaning in the course of watching the bizarre drama that unfolds in a maverick fashion Director Om Saiprakash, who is known for churning out tearjerkers, exposes his lack of insight into the plot and subplots. He has accommodated a free play of vulgarity, eroticism and farce. The director attempts to exercise his hold on the audience in a liberal fashion, undermining the latter's sensibility. Unrealistic situations, image building gimmicks, boorish dialogues and glaring absence of nativity push the film and audience to opposite edges.
