A great tale messily executed

Flags Of Our Fathers (English)

Director: Clint Eastwood

Cast: Jesse Bradford, Ryan Phillipe, Adam Beach

In the war film genre, there is a fine line that separates poignant, important thoughts that must be told from jingoistic and often-macho clichés that usually come in their place instead. With Flags of Our Fathers, director Clint Eastwood certainly shows his capacity to find those important thoughts, but ruins the effect by distrusting his own insight.

The film, revolves around a photograph of six men raising an American flag during the battle for the Japanese island of Iwo Jima. The photograph causes a flurry back home, which leads the cash-strapped U.S. army to bring the living three of the six men back to the country to go on a nationwide campaign to raise funds for the war.
