HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham has threatened to occupy the assigned lands in the possession of rich persons in the State if the Government fails to distribute them to the eligible poor. Sangham general secretary B. Venkat has set May 1 as the deadline for the Government to reclaim more than 20,000 acres of assigned lands around the twin cities failing which it would resort to "direct action." He was participating in a round-table on assignment lands organised here on Sunday. Other speakers, including retired IAS officers K.R. Venugopal and T. Gopal Rao, expressed concern that the Government was taking lands from the poor while initiating efforts to regularise those in possession of the rich.
