HYDERABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has decided to field a Muslim from one of the two seats that the party would be contesting in the Legislative Council elections from MLAs constituency. This was announced here on Sunday by TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao while addressing members of Muslim community who joined the party from the old city. The TRS stands a chance of winning only two seats from the MLAs constituency with the support of 17 of the 26 party MLAs. The remaining nine MLAs are rebels. Mr. Rao told the meeting that one seat would be allotted to Muslims and the other to non-Muslims. He said the Muslim community would have a major role to play when the State of Telangana would be formed. No political party could afford to ignore the welfare agenda of the Muslims as they formed a sizeable section of the population in the region.
Leader resigns
Meanwhile, a senior leader of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), K. Yadagiri Reddy, resigned from his post as party general secretary, as he was reportedly upset over not being considered as a candidate for elections to the Legislative Council. Mr. Reddy will, however, continue as a primary member of the party. He told reporters after submitting the resignation letter in TRS office on Sunday that he was quitting his post due to certain compulsions in his native district of Nalgonda. Significantly, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao had announced allotment of a party seat to Muslims for the Council elections from MLAs constituency a few hours after Mr. Reddy's resignation. Mr. Reddy is also an official spokesman of TRS by virtue of being a general secretary.
