NELLORE: It is now official. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has announced its support to Congress rebel Bommireddy Raghavendra Reddy for the Legislative Council seat under the local body quota. "We have declared our support to Mr. Raghavendra Reddy, an engineering graduate and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) member from A. S. Peta for the Local Authorities' Constituency for a variety of reasons. The prime one being, he has been opposing the Congress party's official nominee C. V. Sesha Reddy," TDP district president and former Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy told reporters on Sunday. Asked whether he would join the TDP, the rebel candidate, who has filed his nomination as an independent, said that he had not yet made up his mind. "As of now, I have been trying to get support from members belonging to the CPI(M), CPI, BJP and Independents," he said.
Legal wrangles
Meanwhile, legal experts warned that the rebel candidate might land in legal wrangles. "The rebel candidate has neither been expelled from the Congress nor he resigned for the ZPTC seat. But he has been in the fray for the LAC seat. Given this backdrop, he may face legal hurdles in future," said an advocate. The TDP district president and the rebel candidate said they would consult their advocates. "If needed, I will resign from the ZPTC," Mr. Raghavendra Reddy added.
