UDF to discuss agitation plan

Special Correspondent

Against liquor, industrial policies

Thiruvananthapuram: The High Power Committee of the United Democratic Front is meeting here on March 6 to finalise its strategy against the Government's liquor and industrial policies, the Devaswom Board and Higher Education Council ordinances.

The UDF district liaison committee chairpersons and conveners had also been invited to attend the function. Coalition convener P.P. Thankachan said the meeting would finalise the next stage of its agitation against the LDF rule.

The UDF had staged a series of agitations both at the State and regional levels focusing on issues such as the misery faced by the people travelling on MC Road.

At the State-level, it recently organised a dharna in front of the Secretariat in protest against the rise in prices of commodities and the law and order situation.

The high power committee, Mr. Thankachan said, would also discuss the reconstitution of the district and Assembly liaison committees. Once this process was over, the UDF would chart out more focussed agitation programmes highlighting regional issues.

The Thiruvananthapuram District Congress Committee, headed by DCC president V.S. Shiva Kumar, called for a district-level convention of party workers to finalise an agitation programme focussing on the stoppage of development work in the capital city and the delay in getting the Vizhinjam project off the ground. He said the convention would be inaugurated by leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy.
