Steps to speed up Anubhav deposit disbursement

CHENNAI: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the police is helping the High Court appointed-Administrator for Anubhav group of companies speed up disbursement of a part of the principal to depositors.

It is also monitoring the appraisal and auctioning of the attached property of the group "at the present market value," said an official release on the recent meeting between the EOW officers and the depositors.

Anubhav group of companies defaulted on repayment of Rs.261 crore to its depositors.

EOW Additional Director-General of Police Archana Ramasundaram led the officers at the meeting attended by nearly 140 depositors.

Action was also being taken in association with the Administrator for expediting sale of the remaining property.

So far, Rs.75 crore had been obtained from the sale of the attached land.

Subsequently, the High Court ordered that Rs.37 crore be disbursed to the depositors from December 12, 2006.

The remaining Rs.30 crore of the sale proceeds was ordered by the court to be deposited in a bank, the release said.

The release said many depositors wanted to know the procedures for fresh claims.

Filing of claims

Ms. Ramasundaram urged all those who had not filed their claims to do so soon, as the cut-off date for filing of the claims fixed by the High Court had expired. The Administrator was filing the condone delay petitions before accepting the claim forms.
