KOCHI: The Kerala Nadi Samrakshana Samiti has urged authorities not to open the gates of the Boothathankettu barrage now. This, they said, would prevent slushy sediments in the reservoir washing down to the Aluva-Eloor region. Samiti general secretary C.M. Joy said sediments from the Kallarkutty reservoir were washed down the Periyar in December and the drinking water had got muddied for weeks together. To check such an eventuality the barrage should not be opened now, he said.
