Minister calls for change in attitude towards safety

KOCHI: Minister for Labour P.K. Gurudasan has called for a change in attitude towards safety. He has said that the State Government will fully support safety programmes and help create awareness among workers and the public.

The Minister was inaugurating a function organised at the Productivity House, Kalamassery, to celebrate National Safety Day. He gave away the awards for outstanding safety performances.

Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore Ltd., Udyogamandal division, won the award in the large-size chemical industries section. Cochin Shipyard Ltd. won it in the non-chemical industry section. Hindustan Latex Ltd., Thiruvananthapuram, won the award in the other category of industries.

Hindustan Insecticides Ltd., Udyogamandal, was the winner in the medium- sized chemical industry section, while OEN India Ltd. won in the non-chemical section. Hindustan Lever Ltd., Aroor, won the award in another category of medium-sized industry. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Indane Bottling Plant, Chelari, Malappuram, bagged the award in the small-sized industry sector, along with Hindalco Industries Ltd., Alupuram, and Modern Food Industries (India) Ltd.

The best performance award for safety committee went to BPCL Kochi Refinery, Ambalamugal, and the award for excellence in safety management went to SEPR Refractories India Ltd., Kanjikode, Palakkad.

The G.S. Dhara Singh Memorial Suraksha Award went to Dinakaran Kombilath, Chief Reporter, Mathrubhoomi, Kannur. The Samoohya Suraksha Award went to V. Mohan Kumar, Doordarshan Kendra, Thiruvananthapuram.
