Kumaraswamy prays at Meenakshi temple

BANGALORE: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy visited the Madurai Meenakshi temple in Tamil Nadu on Sunday along with his wife Anita Kumaraswamy.

The Chief Minister left to Tamil Nadu by a helicopter from the Jakkur airfield in Bangalore in the morning. He is expected to return to Bangalore on Monday morning. — Special Correspondent

CPI (M) protest

HASSAN: State CPI (M) secretary G.N. Nagaraj has said that CPI (M) activists will stage a dharna in front of the Director-General of Police office in Bangalore and also the Superintendent of Police offices in the districts on Monday to protest against the arrest of B.V. Seetaram, journalist, in Mangalore on Saturday.

Speaking to The Hindu here on Sunday, Mr. Nagaraj said they would also ask the Chief Minister to transfer the Mangalore Superintendent of Police immediately. Even during the communal disturbances in November/December last year, the Superintendent of Police had not acted impartially, the CPI (M) leader alleged. — Special Correspondent

`File review petition'

HASSAN: CPI (M) State secretary G.N. Nagaraj has said that Karnataka should file a review petition in the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal against its final award and also explore the option of approaching the Supreme Court.

He was speaking to The Hindu on Sunday.

Mr. Nagaraj said the election results of Punjab and Uttarakhand showed that the policies of the Congress were "anti-people."

The UPA Government should take the elections as an eye-opener and start implementing pro-people programmes. — Special Correspondent

Convention of SHGs

Udupi: A convention of Navodaya Self Help Groups will be held at the Adiudupi grounds here on March 7, managing trustee of the Navodaya Gram Vikas Charitable Trust M.N. Rajendra Kumar told presspersons on Sunday. He said that Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy would inaugurate the convention.

About 35,000 members of the Navodaya SHGs would be participating in the convention, he said.

Grievance meetings in Bidar

BIDAR : The Bidar Police will organise open house meetings in each police station on the second Saturday of every month. Senior officials will receive grievances from the public during these meetings, a release from Superintendent of Police Ravi S. said. — Staff Correspondent
