Five killed in road accidents in U.P.

Lucknow: Five persons were killed and eight injured in separate incidents in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

Two persons were killed after being knock down by a bus in Lakhimpur Kheri district while two persons died and five were injured in a collision between a bus and a truck in Kannauj district.

In the third incident, one person was killed and three injured after being knocked down by a speeding jeep in Behraich district.

Elderly man knocked down

Kanpur: An elderly man was killed on Sunday after being knocked down allegedly by three drunk youths on a two wheeler at Kidwai Nagar area here, police said.

The three youths knocked down the unidentified man in a drunken stupor and sped away, police said, adding that the man died on the spot.

Police have sent the body for post-mortem.

Two held on charge of ticketless travel

Kanpur: Two youths, carrying Rs. 28.94 lakh with them, were arrested at central railway station here on Sunday for travelling without tickets, police said.

Girish and Rajesh, two cashiers working at Allahabad Jewellers, claimed they came here to make some payments.

They told the police they did not purchase tickets during their travel on Saturday night as they had a heavy sum with them.

The money has been kept in the GRP Station and the duo sent to jail for ticketless travel.

Fake notes seized; man held

NEW DELHI: A Nepalese national has been caught by the South Delhi police allegedly in possession of counterfeit Indian currency notes worth Rs. 16,500 from Yusuf Sarai market.

The police said they had received a tip-off recently that a person carrying fake currency notes would come to the market for shopping. A trap was laid and the accused, Dhuroo Malla (32), was caught carrying the fake currency.

During interrogation, Dhuroo purportedly told the police that one Vishwanath lured him into the business of fake currency. A school dropout, the accused had come to Delhi two years ago in search of work.

Man shot dead

Jaipur: A 25-year-old youth was shot dead on Sunday by a man in Raghnathpura police station area in Sikar, about 180 km from here, police said.

Mahipal died after he was shot allegedly by one Kishore Kumar, police said, adding that personal enmity was suspected to be the reason behind the murder.

Kumar fled from the spot after the incident, they said, adding a hunt was on for him.

One gunned down

Kanpur: A man was shot dead on Sunday by three residents of his locality in the city, police said.

Raju Pasi, a resident of Loharanbhatta under Kakadeo police station, was shot dead by one Ajai Pal and two others, they said. The trio had gone to his house and had an altercation with him, they said, adding they suspected old enmity to be the cause.

No one has been arrested so far.
