BERHAMPUR: Spurious drugs and injections of reputed pharmaceutical companies are being sold in rural as well as urban areas of south Orissa. It is alleged that spurious medicines and injections are being marketed easily due to lack of strict monitoring by the State Government. Most populated district in the State, Ganjam has two posts of drug inspectors to monitor sale of drugs and injections at over 1500 retail and wholesale units in the district. One of these posts has been vacant since long. According to Nageswar Prusty, convener of South Orissa Pharmacists' Association, it was quite difficult for common man to know whether the medicines and injections were original or not as forgers try their best to give a similar packaging like the original. Samples of duplicate strips of Droxyl, antibiotic, injections ampules of Diclonec, Methargin have reached Mr Prusty through various sources. Only a pharmacist can tell the difference in the packaging of spurious ones.
