7 injured in group clash

Chairperson of Polasara NAC P.K. Pradhan injured seriously

BERHAMPUR : Seven persons were injured, two of them seriously in a political group clash at Polasara in Ganjam district on Sunday during the Holi celebrations. A large number of crude bombs were hurled during the clash. Chairperson of Polasara Notified Area Council P.K. Pradhan was seriously injured in the clash. He along with another injured is being treated at the MKCG Medical College Hospital of the city. Five more persons injured in the clash were undergoing treatment at Poalasara hospital.

Mr. Pradhan and his supporters were allegedly attacked by his rival group while he was on his way to the local police station to file an FIR. Bombs were hurled and miscreants also attacked with sharp weapons. It is alleged that this clash had its beginning on Sunday morning. Some Ramkrushna Patnaik supporters of the Congress attacked a group of BJD supporters celebrating Holi near Sandha Sahi Square. Getting information about this incident, Mr Pradhan intervened and he was on his way to file a case at the police station against the rival group when the second attack occurred. No one had been arrested in relation to this group clash till evening.

Political rivalry

According to police sources intensified political rivalry due to the recently ended panchayat polls is the reason behind the clash.

Trading rivalry is also a major reason behind this tussle, feel the localites. Polasara is politically volatile as former BJD state minister turned Congressman; Ramkrushna Patnaik wants to keep his hold on this town while BJD supporters do not want a major detractor of Naveen Patnaik to gain base at Polasara.
