CLOSER LOOK: Labour Minister T. M. Anbarasan examines the safety kit released on Sunday as part of National Safety Day observance. K. A. Mohamed Aziz, Chief Inspector of Factories, is in the picture.
CHENNAI : The Labour Department will conduct a course in safety-related issues in the Irungattukottai industrial complex on Monday. Representatives from 50 factories will participate in the day-long course, organised by the National Safety Council and the Tamil Nadu Factory Inspectorate. Effective safety, health and environment management systems, compliance, promotional activities, training, workplace assessment, hazards control, and personal protection are some of the basic elements that should be looked into for control of losses in industry, said Labour Minister T.M. Anbarasan. Speaking to The Hindu on the occasion of National Safety Day (March 4), he said that the safety, health and environment movement had been set in motion by the industry to reduce losses to zero for the individual, the company and the nation. As part of the safety awareness campaign, many industries are organising a slew of programme for their workers. TVS and Sundaram Clayton are among the companies which will organise a meeting on safety-related aspects and issues on March 5. A similar function will be organised by the CPCL on March 6. As part of the awareness drive , tiffin carriers and other `daily use' products with safety messages inscribed on them will be distributed to workers.
