Man held, 30 gold sovereigns recovered

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI : Pazhavanthangal police arrested a 27-year-old man from Andhra Pradesh and recovered stolen jewels weighing around 30 sovereigns.

G Ravikumar (46) of Nanganallur 48th street complained to the police that his wife had lost her jewels weighing 33 sovereigns, kept in her medical shop in Nanganallur Illangovadikal Street on February 28. Ravikumar's wife wanted to place a bulk order, and the couple planned to take a loan from a bank pledging the jewels. When they were about to leave for the bank, they realised the jewel bag was missing.

On March 3, a man moving in a suspicious manner in Nanganallur bazaar area, was questioned by a special team, which found his statements contradictory.

The man, identified as Durgarao alias Cheenu of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh confessed to have stolen the jewel bag, police said.
